The booklets in this series present buildings designed by Alvar Aalto, with introductory texts based either on Alvar Aalto’s own writings or on articles written by architectural experts. The contents are enlivened by photographs and architectural drawings of the buildings then and now. The serie has been published since 1976.
Academic Bookstore in the heart of Helsinki was completed in 1969. In his article An Academic Treasure, architect Roy Mänttäri opens history of The Academic Bookstore in Helsinki. He also presents the phases of planning and building of Alvar Aalto’s successful entry. There is also a short project description by Alvar and Elissa Aalto, and list of the main renovations during the years.
