Architecture by Alvar Aalto 25: Inkeroinen – Industrial Community
The booklets in this series present buildings designed by Alvar Aalto, with introductory texts based either on Alvar Aalto’s own writings or on articles written by architectural experts. The contents are enlivened by photographs and architectural drawings of the buildings then and now. The serie has been published since 1976.
The latest volume in the series, published in conjunction with Alvar Aalto Week, presents the buildings and architectural history of the factory district in Inkeroinen, Kouvola. In 1937–56, Aalto designed industrial buildings and various residences, ranging from single-family houses to terrace houses to blocks of flats, for the district known as Tehtaanmäki. This integrated set of designs includes the unique Tehtaanmäki Elementary School and the Karhunkangas single-family homes area.
