Alvar Aalto Art Posters: Architecture and Cultural Values
Architecture and Cultural Values
The Architecture and Cultural Values poster was designed for the fourth international Alvar Aalto Symposium, which was held in Jyväskylä on 19–21 August 1988. Lecturers reflected on the implications of a global and uniform popular culture for architecture – does such a unified culture dominate architecture that stems from local characteristics, or is it possible for culture-respecting architecture to emerge in a new way from local perspectives? The symposium was chaired by the architect Gunnel Adlercreutz. The poster is illustrated by Aalto’s travel sketch of the ruins of Olympia in Greece.
